SCHOOL ATTENDANCE POLICY


NEW YORK STATE MANDATED COURSES FOR SECURITY GUARDS

Mandated pursuant to General Business Law 89

 

NOTE: ALL STUDENTS MUST ATTEND FOR THE EXACT NUMBER OF HOURS/TIME REQUIRED BY THE NEW YORK STATE DIVISION OF CRIMINAL JUSTICE SERVICES TO COMPLETE EACH MANDATORY COURSE.  THERE ARE NO SHORT CUTS ALLOWED SO BE PREPARED TO STAY FOR THE ENTIRE LENGTH OF THE COURSE.  STUDENTS WHO DO NOT MEET SCHOOL ATTENDANCE POLICIES AS OUTLINED BELOW WILL NOT PASS THE RESPECTIVE COURSE THEY ENROLLED FOR.

 

POLICY:

 

SECTION I. NEW YORK STATE DIVISION OF CRIMINAL JUSTICE SERVICE COURSES.

 

Note: We no longer conduct partial-day training sessions and courses are conducted in one day increments as follows:

 

    1. NYS Eight Hour Pre-Assignment Course for Security Guards: This course is a one day course and the student should be prepared to stay for eight hours. Time is allotted for 10 minute breaks each hour, and a there is lunch break as well.  
    2. NYS Eight Hour Annual In-Service Training Course for Security Guards: This course is a one day course and the student should be prepared to stay for eight hours IRRESPECTIVE OF THEIR WORK EXPERIENCE, POSITION, OR WHAT THEY HAVE EXPERIENCED ELSEWHERE REGARDING ATTENDANCE TIME REQUIRED FOR THIS COURSE. Time is allotted for 10 minute breaks each hour, and a there is lunch break as well.   
    3. NYS Sixteen Hour Annual On-the-Job Training Course for Security Guards: This course is a two day course and the student should be prepared to stay for eight hours each day. Time is allotted for 10 minute breaks each hour, and a there is lunch break as well.   
    4. NYS Forty-Seven Hour Training Course for Security Guards: This course is a one day course and the student should be prepared to stay for eight hours each day IRRESPECTIVE OF THEIR WORK EXPERIENCE, POSITION, OR WHAT THEY HAVE EXPERIENCED ELSEWHERE REGARDING ATTENDANCE TIME REQUIRED FOR THIS COURSE. Time is allotted for 10 minute breaks each hour, and a there is lunch break as well.   
    5. NYS Eight Hour Annual In-Service Firearms Training Course for Security Guards: This course is a one day course and the student should be prepared to stay for eight hours. Time is allotted for 10 minute breaks each hour, and a there is lunch break as well.   

 

SECTION II. TARDINESS AND LEAVING EARLY:

 

A.      Students who arrive within thirty (30) minutes after the start of a course (including the introduction) may be allowed to stay after class is dismissed to make up the time with permission of the school director.

B.       Students who arrive more than more than thirty (30) minutes late for the start of a course must reschedule the course for another day.

C.       Students who need to leave early from a course must obtain permission from the school director to make up a partial day or must retake the entire course.  Students who leave early with permission of the director must make up the time missed within forty-eight (48) hours or must retake the entire course.

 

Students who are going to be late to class are advised to notify the school administration in advance via telephone at (631) 991-2620 as soon as possible.

 

 

 

SECTION III. FAILING REQUIRED WRITTEN EXAMINATIONS:

 

A.  Students who fail to pass any written examination must retake and successfully pass the examination within two days.

B.  If the student fails the examination a second time they will not pass the course and must retake the

       course in its entirety.
