Section 1 - Dates, time and location of classes.

A. Specific Courses for unarmed security guards in New York State:

WHAT:

• Course 700:  NYS Eight Hour Pre-Assignment Class for Security Guards (needed to get initial license and start working). 

• Course 703: NYS Eight Hour Annual In-Service Training Class for Security Guards  (needed to be taken each year for license renewal).

Courses 700 and 703 (above) are for all security guards and are conducted on the following days:

• Course 701:  NYS Sixteen Hour On-then-Job Training Course for Security Guards  (required to be taken within 90 days after you start working, but some employers may ask for it before you are hired).

Course 701 is for all security guards and is conducted each week on  Saturdays (Daytime) and on one other week or weekend day.

Cross street is 4th Avenue (north side of street) or Maple Avenue (south side of street -- same cross street but different name on side that goes to ferries).

Landmarks:

- Smokin' Al's Restaurant or Serious Chocolate is almost directly opposite us,  across the street. We are on the south side of the street.

- Cross street is same block that runs past the Bay Shore Long Island Railroad Station and to the Bay Shore/Fire Island Ferries.

IMPORTANT!  Although most training is given at our offices, locations can sometimes vary depending on the course or program and continuation classes may be given at more than one place.  For example, part of the 47 Hour Firearms Course is given at the pistol range and not in the regular classroom. 

In addition, seating is also very limited so always check with us first to see where the meetings/training sessions are and if there are any open slots.  Do not just show up at any location without an appointment: You MUST call us first! We may be full or conducting the training elsewhere.

• Course 702: 47 Hour Firearms Course for Armed Security Guards (required to be taken in addition to Course 700 to apply for Armed Guard registration and to work as an Armed Guard).

• Course 704: 8 Hour Annual Firearms Training Course for Armed Security Guards (required to be each year to keep Armed Guard registration and work as an Armed Guard).

Once you make an appointment, please mark it down on your calendar and/or place a note in a conspicuous place to remind you of the class date and time so that you won't miss it and become a "no show".  This is irresponsible and inconsiderate to others who could have had your seat in the class.

Section 3 - What to Bring on Day of Your Class:

On the day of class, please bring the following:

1. Driver's license, passport, or other photo ID.

2. Social security number (you don't need your social security card, but will need to provide the number for New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services paperwork).

3. Something to take notes with: Pen and/or #2 pencil if you have one (if not we'll lend one to you). We give you handouts, but recommend that you also bring a note pad or sheets of paper.

4. Tuition fee.  We accept cash, US postal money, or traveler's check ONLY.  We cannot accept personal checks, debit or credit cards at this time as our fees are too low to absorb the many additional costs associated with credit cards or returned items.

Section 4 - Courses Offered:

We offer all state-mandated courses and special courses such as verbal judo, advanced report writing, handcuffing, et. al., for individuals or employers.

I. STATE MANDATED UNARMED TRAINING COURSES

• 8 Hour Pre-Assignment Class for Security Guards  (Required to get initial license and only taken/passed one time.)

• 16 Hour On-the-Job Training Course for Security Guards (Required to be taken within 90 days of initial hire date and only taken/passed one time.)  

• 8 Hour In-Service Training Course for Security Guards (Required to be taken each year regardless if license is due for renewal.)

II. STATE MANDATED ARMED TRAINING COURSES:

We are authorized to conduct the ARMED TRAINING COURSES for security guards.  We may conduct them directly, or depending on our schedule, we may also refer you to one of our affiliates.

Section 5 - Tuition Fees:

A. All courses are offered to individuals at affordable rates in a number of convenient approved locations on Long Island.

B. We also work with any size companies, social service and labor organizations,municipalities, school districts, institutions, and various organizations that employ security guards, and can offer special lower negotiated fees on a sliding scale basis that are not listed on on this site.

      Pre-Assignment Course with us pay only $90 for the the 16 Hour class if they take it within 14 days of completion of the initial course. Total is $150 for both courses together (regularly $180).  Must attend for three (3) days. For those who took the 8 Hour Pre Assignment Course elsewhere, no problem, but the regular affordable rate of $120 applies. No other discounts apply to this course.

Special category rate/lower tuition fee of $55 is available for the 8 hour Pre-Assignment (Course #700) and 8 Hour Annual In-Service (Course #703) classes and applies to the following categories only (must show proper valid/current agency, college, or military ID or DD-214 to qualify on day of class or the regular rate will be charged):

(A) Local, state, or federal government employees also public authority employees including railroad.

(B) Active/retired US military, guard, or reserve.

(C) Active volunteer fire department or aux. police.

(D) College students.

(E) Active duty or honorably discharged member of 

      US military, national guard, or reserve unit.

(F) Previous students of any of our classes.

Requirements for A-F discount: To qualify for above categories A, B, C, and D students must produce the appropriate job, military or college ID on day of class; and, for category E (veterans) students must produce a copy of their DD-214 or regular rate will be charged. ID cards must be current and unexpired. NO exceptions so please don't ask! For category F, we already have your school training records so no additional documentation is necessary, but let us know who you are when reserving your seat.

Note: The below listed fees for fingerprinting and the state license application have nothing to do with our institution, and have to be taken into account in addition to the cost of your training.

ELECTRONIC FINGERPRINTING REQUIRED BY LAW

To get a security guard license, individuals must also pay the required fees to the New York State Department of State and the state authorized electronic fingerprint vendor (L-1 Enrollment Services). Electronic fingerprinting is cleaner, more efficient, and helps get your license processed faster.

NOTE: Rolled fingerprint cards using INK (the OLD way) are generally accepted by the state by mail because there are remote locations where there are no authorized fingerprint vendor sites around (like rural areas upstate), and some other schools in the NYC/LI area still will fingerprint you this way in order to list another "included service".

BEWARE: Applicants who attempt to send in rolled fingerprint cards to the State licensing authority (Department of State Division of Licensing Services) still must PAY the authorized electronic fingerprint vendor's FEE (you save NO money) and WILL experience an indefinite DELAY in their application process! Rolled print cards must be re-mailed out of New York State by the Division of Licensing Services to be electronically scanned by the fingerprint vendor, and if there is any mistake on the print card the process will have to be repeated causing even MORE delays.

SECURITY GUARD SCHOOLS OFFERING TO PROVIDE FREE FINGERPRINTING FOR YOU ON CARDS WITH INK AS PART OF THEIR SERVICE IN AN EFFORT TO TRY AND GET YOU TO SIGN UP WITH THEM ARE NOT DOING YOU A BIG FAVOR UNLESS YOU LIKE THE IDEA OF ADDING ADDITIONAL DAYS/WEEKS TO WAIT FOR YOUR LICENSE TO ARRIVE IN THE MAIL!

Better: Make sure you get your prints done the right way -- electronically. This way your application process will go smoother and faster.

Total fees effective January 1, 2010 for electronic fingerprinting are $105.75 which breaks down as follows: 

1. NYS Division of Criminal Justice Services = $75.00

2. FBI = $19.25

3. Fingerprint Vendor (L-1 Identity Solutions) = $11.50

The above fees of $105.75 are paid to the Electronic Fingerprint Vendor, L-1 Identity Solutions (L1 Enrollment Services). They may be contacted for more information and to make an appointment through the link and/or telephone number located at the bottom of our home page.

NEW YORK STATE SECURITY GUARD

LICENSE APPLICATION FEE

There is also a state application fee for the security guard license of $36, and is payable to the NYS Department of State.

The total fees for licensing will therefore cost an individual $141 -- as explained above ($105 + $36) -- as of January 1st 2011. Note: Fees are subject to change by NYS every 6 months. 

Helpful tip: It should be noted that a number of authorized security guard employers may pay these fees for their employees.  This can reduce any additional out-of-pocket expenses to you entirely.
